BALLOoN SAFARIS
The peak of a safari isn't on the ground
A sunrise balloon flight over the Serengeti is one of those experiences that’s genuinely hard to describe to someone who hasn’t done it. The plains from above, the light coming up, herds moving below without any sound of an engine. An hour in the air followed by a bush breakfast after landing.
The Serengeti is one of only a handful of places in the world where balloon safaris operate at this scale. Flights depart before dawn from launch sites in the central Serengeti, typically near Seronera. As the sun rises, you drift over acacia woodland, open grassland and seasonal river systems. Depending on the time of year, you may see wildebeest on the move, lion prides returning from a night hunt, or elephant families moving through the bush. There are no engine sounds. Nothing spooks the animals below.
Flights last approximately one hour. After landing — which can be almost anywhere the wind decides — a full bush breakfast is set up on the spot. It is one of the more memorable meals you will have in Tanzania.
Balloon safaris require advance booking and are best added to an existing Serengeti stay. We arrange this as part of your itinerary and coordinate timing with your ground programme. When you’re planning your Tanzania safari, ask us to include it and we will build it in.
