7 Days Tanzanian Odyssey - Great Migration Safari

7-Day Tanzania Odyssey Overview

Seven days in Tanzania’s northern circuit. Tarangire’s baobabs, the Great Migration in the Serengeti, and a full day in the Ngorongoro Crater. Private vehicle, private guide, your own pace.

Day 1: Arrival Day

Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfers you to Arusha. The drive takes about an hour. Check in, rest, and prepare for an early departure the next morning.

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire to Mto wa Mbu

You leave Arusha after breakfast and drive south to Tarangire National Park. The park is famous for its baobab trees and large elephant herds — often the biggest concentrations anywhere in East Africa during the dry season. Lions, leopards, and wild dogs are also resident. The afternoon game drive runs until sunset. You overnight at a camp or lodge just outside the park.

Days 3: Mto wa Mbu to Serengeti through NCA

Today is a transit day, but it is not a wasted one. You leave the Mto wa Mbu area and drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area into the Serengeti. The road passes through open highland before dropping into the Serengeti plains. There are usually wildlife sightings along the way. You arrive in time for an afternoon drive in the southern Serengeti.

Day 4: Full day in Serengeti

A full day in the Serengeti. This is the core of the itinerary — open savannah, acacia woodland, and the chance to follow the herds without a fixed schedule. The Great Migration passes through different areas depending on the season. Your guide knows where to go. The Big Five are all present year-round. Take your time.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

You leave the Serengeti and drive to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. The change in landscape is dramatic. The crater floor sits 600 metres below the rim, and the air is noticeably cooler at altitude. Dinner and overnight at a lodge on the crater rim with views across the caldera.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu

An early descent into the crater. The floor covers 260 square kilometres and is home to around 25,000 animals year-round. Black rhino, lion, elephant, hippo, and flamingo are all regularly seen in a single circuit. Your guide knows the best areas for predator activity and where the rhino tend to graze. You spend the full morning in the crater, returning to the rim for lunch.

Day 7: Karatu to Lake Manyara

A shorter drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a final game drive. The park is best known for its tree-climbing lions and over 400 bird species. The lake itself draws flamingos in large numbers. After the drive, you continue to Arusha for a farewell dinner and your last night before the journey home.

Day 8: Free day in Arusha City

A free morning in Arusha before your departure transfer. Use the time to visit a local market, explore the town, or rest. Your guide can arrange a cultural visit or coffee tour if you want to fill the morning. Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.

Day 9: Departure Day

Seven days. Four parks. One uninterrupted stretch of the most iconic wildlife landscape in East Africa. Serengeti Legacy Adventures guides every journey as a private trip — no shared vehicles, no rushed itineraries.
